Roland DG (UK)
Ltd; Clevedon; July 2006: With the introduction of the new CAMM-1
PRO Series GX-500/300, professional vinyl cutters. Roland has started
a nationwide search for the oldest operational CAMM-1 vinyl cutter.
Mat Drake, Roland's Technical
Services Manager claimed. "When I started in the business nearly
eighteen years ago the first cutter I installed was a Roland CAMM-1
PNC-1000 and as far as I know that same cutter was still working three
years ago. Our service engineers still regularly come across the original
Roland CAMM-1 vinyl cutters that are still operational ten to fifteen
years after they were installed - it's a real testament to the build quality
and the care that our customers take of their kit."
He continued. "We're now
conducting a search for the oldest CAMM-1 vinyl cutter in the UK
and when we find it we'll swap it for a brand new CAMM-1 PRO GX-300
- if the owner is prepared to part with it!"
Roland will place 'the oldest
cutter in town' in pride of place in their head office showroom in Clevedon
- it will sit proudly alongside the new CAMM-1 PRO GX-300 and GX-500
cutters as a testimonial to a truly industry leading product range.
Jerry Davies, Roland's Managing
Director stated. "Our customers around the world and particularly
in the UK have a strong relationship with us. We've been supporting them
for over twenty five years in a market place that has never stood still
and we've always been there to help them make their business more productive."
He continued. "The CAMM-1 PNC-1000 was truly revolutionary
in it's time and the early users were among the pioneers of the digital
graphics industry. It's a bit of fun to find the oldest machine in the
UK but it has a serious side - we care about our heritage and want to
preserve a little bit of it - the PNC-1000 is an iconic machine for us
as well as some of our customers who built their businesses and reputations
on it."
